It hasn't stopped snowing in Chicago for over 24 hours. I really do love winter and I'm one of the few that doesn't complain too much. Usually a blanket of white falls over the city in December, however it's quite tardy this year. The snowflakes are as large as pennies, which makes it a bit difficult to see when the wind blows in my face. Although I have much fun in the snowy outdoors, it is wonderful observe from inside. Here's the peaceful view from our living room window:

The beautiful bride and lovely ladies.

Cydney and I collaborated on her custom hair flower, created with silk dupioni and silk organza, accented with pink Swarovski crystals, pearls sprays and wispy ostrich feathers.

Cydney dons a gorgeous J. Helm ball gown, complete with a sweetheart neckline, blush lace waist, full gathered skirt, side pockets (yay!), and a sweep train.

Cydney and Kiel were not only surrounded by family and friends, but by fabulous vendors. One of which was Volkel Image, the husband and wife team of Dusty and Michelle. Michelle has known Cydney since elementary school, which made the affair even more special. This talented duo captured amazing photographs, making it quite difficult to choose a few for this post. Midway up Bascom Hill

I'll forever be a Badger and have a soft spot in my heart for The University of Wisconsin - Madison, where I spent my undergrad college years. Aside from the most beautiful campus grounds, this city boasts genuinely nice folks, strong support for local small businesses and a rich history to boot. We rented a car for our lil' road trip and I was excited to show M around!

The new Union South opened in April 2011. What a difference from when I was a Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR) Guide! It resembles a frontier resort, with cozy fireplaces and comfortable seating. On top of that, there are bars, eateries, movie theater, study lounges - the list goes on! And we were treated by the UW Band's drum line for an impromptu performance:

We also explored another building that was brand new to me - The Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery. Nestled in the absolutely stunning space are zen lounges, soothing chimes, interactive media, lush greenery, ample seating and windows, windows, windows.

Then it was on the Badger game at Camp Randall, where we scored sweet seats!

We played Penn State's Nittany Lions and whooped their booties 45 - 7. This makes them the 2011 Big 10 Leaders Division Champions! Though it was rainy & chilly, we camped out until after 5th quarter to sing along with the other troopers. What a great time. Will you join me in singing Varsity?

Thanksgiving

Looking forward to heading home to the family for Thanksgiving. Since I'm not much of a poultry eater, I'm a big fan of side dishes. Paula Deen, I'm thankful for you and your Macaroni & Cheese and Green Bean Casserole recipes! The white chocolate chip macadamia nut cookies are baking right now, just in time for breakfast. Mmmm...

Did you snag Missoni wares when the iconic label hit Target stores a week ago? No matter how many times I hit "refresh", the website remained jammed. Insert wah wah waaaah sound effect. Instead, I snagged some autumny Missoni-inspired fabric from Esty's SoFunFabrics. Featuring vibrant colors, the Flourish Collection by Alisha Place Frost for StudioE Fabrics is out of print and hard to find. I scored the last piece available from the shop! Take that Target!

Here's a shot of the piece I whipped up and pinned to my messenger bag. A few people stopped me inquiring how I snagged the blossom because they didn't see it during their shopping frenzy. Success!

One of my good friends is getting hitched this fall and today is her bridal shower. Since I'm 2000 miles away and am unable to be at the event, I created these favors for her guests with lots of love. Can you guess what the shower theme is? I know, obvious. The piece comes with a hair clip and brooch backing for multi-use action. Oh la la!

The black fabric and the cruelty-free feathers (from Ranamuck) were already in my supply stash. Thanks to the following Etsy shops for the rest: alligator clip/brooch pin backing from HERE, Venice lace leaf appliques from HERE and Eiffel tower charms from HERE.

The fabulous hand-stamped glassine envelopes are from DIY Supply Store's Etsy shop. Ellen, the shop's owner, is a doll. She also carries twine, tags, German Glass Glitter and more. Language lesson of the day: Merci Mon Ami translates to Thank You My Friend.

GLUTTONY.

Our perfect Valentines involves food. Always. Valentines is about love and we L.O.V.E. good food almost as much as one another. We spent the past couple of years cooking dinner ourselves, however this being our 1st Vday together in the windy city, our hearts were set on letting someone else do the cooking. Our savings account was happy to hear that we scored a most excellent deal from GILT City, which gets you some high-end Groupon action on the cheap.

We got dolled up and were off to Chicago's Little Italy neighborhood to dine at Three Aces. 6 course menu, here we come (did I mention we nabbed this deal for an insane $95 since I had an extra 20% off coupon good towards my 1st Gilt City purchase?)! They're a tad difficult to spot, but my very swanky chandelier earrings are lace and from a local Chicago Etsian, branchbound. Visit her gorgeous shop HERE.

Happy Chinese New Year! Since I've left my day job where I worked with international folk, I'm a bit out of the loop when in comes to worldwide holidays. However, since I'm online daily, nice lil' photos on Bing, my search engine of choice, remind me of important happenings.

Today we took the El to Chicago's Chinatown, M's first visit.

We really need to get a personal photographer to follow us around. Or a tripod.

It's been all over the news - BLIZZARD 2011. The first snow day Chicago's had in over a decade. Cars stuck on Lake Shore Drive. I haven't seen this much snow since I was a kiddie. And the thunder/lightening during the storm (apparently the technical term for this is ... wait for it... "thunder snow") - yikes! But we're now immersed in a blanket of beautiful snow...that I get to shovel. Actually, I don't mind shoveling, seeing that it's exercise and accomplishment in one nice package.

Oh, and by the way, Punxsutawney Phil's (the psychic groundhog) forecast calls for an early spring. So enjoy the powder while it lasts! Guess it's a good groundhog's day after all.

After a blissfully exhausting time at IndieWed, M & I rallied to attend Cage & Aquarium Production's IndieWed: Un-wind at the Globe Pub, just down the road from the über cool Ravenswood Event Center, where IndieWed took place. Lo & behold, there was more fun to be had chilling out with cool vendors, delicious brews, soothing downbeat tunes and a PHOTO BOOTH! Thanks to Traveling Photo Booth for providing us with mini photo shoots:

What an amazing time! Boy OH boy we would've been in trouble if we attended this event before our nuptials. This year's IndieWed had over 90 vendors, with beautiful products and personalities. I wish I was able to get around to more tables; however, we were swamped all day (a good thing)! I'll be sure to post a link to the Flickr stream as soon as it's available.

I'm frantically last-minute packing (what else is new) items from my check off list (wait, this is new!). My handsome husband will be joining me, sporting a very swanky bow tie. In fact, he's practicing the bow tie technique this very minute...thanks to youtube!

It's been nearly a week since Mac came home and we finally have it's first outfit, lovingly created by fellow Etsian, labudde: www.etsy.com/shop/labudde. Check out her shop for cases in different sizes, wallets, kindle covers - she also takes custom orders. There are SO many cool bag graphics and color combos that I had the hardest time making my choice. It took about two hours. Seriously.

I wanted something recycled and labudde's goods are PERFECT. They're crafted from jute coffee bags, once used to transport raw coffee beans to her local coffee roastery in Baltimore, Zeke's. Fabrics used for the trim are either rescued from thrift stores, or carefully selected from scrap bins of local fabric stores. Check out the fabulousness:

The end of an era

The friendships I've made with folks from all over the world. Alas, no more frigid air conditioning, daily grind and working for the man. Now I'm in it for myself. Feels like a graduation of sorts. Self-employment, here I come!

Get your butt to Istanbul. NOW. Holy crap did we had the most PHENOMENAL time. This vibrant, chaotic city holds so much good energy, culture, history, architectural wonders and delicious cuisine. The food is the best! I wanted to hug all the locals - they are so sweet. Every turn held new discoveries and the sweet aroma of chestnuts continuously wafted through the air. We picked up a few Turkish phrases, did a lot of strolling, pet a lot of cats and ate, drank, ate, drank. Couldn't think of a better honeymoon. Now, when are we going back?

This was our first time inside a mosque. You must remove shoes before entering. More amazing mosaic work in here.

As a form of respect, women should cover their shoulders and head. I can't believe how many female tourists did not follow this recommendation! There are scarves EVERYWHERE in Istanbul.

This was one of my favorite places. Eerily peaceful and subtly cool.

Inside the architecturally beautiful Hagia Sophia. Originally constructed as a basilica in 360AD, then converted to a mosque and now a museum.

We only have a few shots of the both of us ... what a time to forget the camera stand!

I always give M crap his photography skills, however this is one of my faves. Well done, hubby!

Turkish coffee at the famous Pandeli's Restaurant in the Spice Market. I left my engagement/wedding ring in the safe most of the time (too much bling for sightseeing). Instead, I'm sporting my 2nd fave ring - the sassy Robindira Unsworth chyrsoprase.

To-die-for desserts at Pandeli's. They're only open for lunch and we got lucky - they still sat us at 3:30pm. We both ordered the best lamb shank we've ever tried. It was devoured in about 10 minutes, alas, only photos of the desserts & coffee.

The pathetic story of the trip - we couldn't decide on a lantern, so in the end - we never purchased one! Wah wah waaaah.

We took the packed tram and then walked 6.5km to Ortaköy, which came highly recommended by my colleagues at work. Very cute little village with great people watching, a cool market with handcrafted goodies and more delicious eats!

It was anti-climactic, but the tide pools made up for it, despite the fact that the tide report was off by a few hours (hence, no cool shots of mollusks or other tide-faring creatures). My Christmas gift to Michael was a membership to Suzie's Organic Farm CSA. CSA stands for "Community Supported Agriculture". By purchasing a share of the farm (aka membership or subscription), we receive a box/bag/basket of seasonal produce every other week (there is also the option of weekly shipments) directly from the farm. Since we frequent farmers markets, I thought this would be a brilliant way to support local agriculture, eat healthier and save some pennies.

This was our first shipment and we poured through the box of goodies like Christmas presents. The funny thing is that we had no clue to what nearly 50% of the items were! We'd take turns waving random bunches of leaves and roots in the air, exclaiming, "What is this?!" Sad, but true.

Luckily, we also received a list of the box's contents and between our limited ID skills and Bing images, we were able to sort our treasure.

The White Flower

One fine day, while strolling around my neighborhood, I stumbled upon the loveliest gown in the window of The White Flower Bridal Boutique. After sighs of delight, I gasped in horror as I already found my dress and was ordered by my ladies to "stop looking" (not possible).

Wild Animal Park

I love animals like nobody's business. Today was an awesome day as we spent it at the Wild Animal Park, just a short drive northeast of San Diego. In conservation efforts, animals roam free in enclosed areas, to replicate their natural environment. Later, they are reintroduced to the wild. The WAP is home to both many endangered and nearly extinct creatures. For example, it is home to 3 of the remain 7 white rhinos in the world. Yes, the ENTIRE world.

There are so many amazing exhibits and enrichment programs. We were lucky enough to catch an animal talk with Majali, a handsome 9 year old male Cheetah ambassador. Since he was just a tiny cub, he's been socialized by the keepers and his best friend, a dog by the name of Clifford. Folks can come as close as 10 feet to Majali, who hangs on on a leash as the keepers educate the audience. So cool!

I'm frantically last-minute packing (what else is new) items from my check off list (wait, this is new!). My handsome husband will be joining me, sporting a very swanky bow tie. In fact, he's practicing the bow tie technique this very minute...thanks to youtube!

We set up a few of the larger props today and will put on the finishing touches tomorrow. Can't wait to meet you!
